What has happened to the old 'Butterfly Sanctuary'?
We started this new project in November 2008 as 'Conservation of Butterflies in South Africa' had to vacate the neighboring property on which the Ramsgate Butterfly Sanctuary was established in 2001. This was to avoid legal prosecution by government departments for non compliance in the buildings erected prior to our occupation. It is public knowledge that legal proceedings have been instituted against the owner and landlord for compensation.

We have acquired the property adjacent to what was known as the 'Butterfly Sanctuary', which is now called the 'Butterfly Valley', Huge strides have been made in the development of the new 'Ramsgate Butterfly Sanctuary'. What has been done so far?
We have been very busy in getting all the paper work done for the new development. Important things that have been acquired so far are as follows;

   

  • Purchase of property

  • Adjacent consent from neighbors for the proposed development

  • Plans drawn for the entire project

  • Traffic report and soil analysis  

  • Surveying of property       

  • Purification tests      

  • Environment Impact Assessment study  (EIA)

  • Excavating for pledge home

  • Gravel road development

  • Paving blocks for new road

  • Storm water gutters have been implemented

  • Planting new indigenous trees and flowers

  • Submission of Plan checklist (passed)
